How to Build a Home Gym in a Cairns Garage

A spare garage, a room under the house or a corner of a shed can all hold a decent home gym. What decides whether you actually use it is not the equipment. It is how well the space was set up before the first plate went on the bar, and that part gets skipped more often than you would think. Floor prep comes first. Bare concrete is hard on your joints and hard on equipment, so rubber tiles or a proper mat under the rack is money well spent. If your place sits on timber stumps like a lot of older Cairns homes, get the joists checked before you anchor anything heavy, because a rack bolted to a springy floor is not really anchored at all. Ventilation is the step people skip and then regret. A garage in Far North Queensland turns into an oven by ten in the morning. A ceiling fan, a decent pedestal fan and, if you can manage it, a whirlybird on the roof make the difference between a room you use all year and one you avoid from September through March. Then come the anchors. A power rack that is not fixed to something solid is a weight waiting to fall on someone, and no amount of care during a set will fix that. Happy Deals Time's install crew check the substrate, pick the right fasteners for your floor and load test the setup before handing it over, which is the boring part that keeps you safe at rep fifteen. Start with a rack, a bench and a barbell, get those anchored properly, and add the rest of the gear once the habit sticks.
